How Card Breaks Work: Pick Your Team vs Pick Your Player Breaks Explained
A card break is a group buy of a sealed box or case. Instead of one person buying the whole case, collectors buy spots. The case is opened live, and every card goes to the buyer whose spot it matches. Here is how breaks at The Ballers Bank work, what the formats mean and how to pick a spot.
TLDR
- A break splits one sealed box or case into spots, usually by team or by player.
- Pick your team (PYT): you buy an MLB, NFL or NBA team and get every card for that team.
- Pick your player (PYP): you buy a specific player and get every card of that player.
- Every break is opened live on TikTok once all spots are sold, and your cards ship to you from San Jose, California.

What is a card break?
High-end products and full cases cost more than most collectors want to spend on one rip. A break lets a group share a case. Each buyer pays for a spot, the breaker opens the whole case on camera, and the cards are sorted by spot and shipped. You get the cards for your team or player without buying the other 29 teams' cards along with them.
Pick your team (PYT) breaks
In a PYT break, there is one spot per team. A baseball break has 30 spots, one for each MLB team. Each team is priced on its own, usually by how strong that team's checklist is in the product. When the case is opened, every card of a player on your team goes to you: base cards, parallels, inserts, autographs and relics.
Example: in a 2026 Topps Series 2 Jumbo case break, the buyer of the Dodgers spot gets every Dodgers card from all 6 Jumbo boxes.
Pick your player (PYP) breaks
In a PYP break, the spots are individual players. You buy the player you collect, and every card of that player pulled from the case is yours. PYP breaks suit prospect-heavy products like Bowman Chrome, where collectors follow specific names.
Two kinds of spots cover the rest of the checklist:
- "& All Others" spots: a named player plus every player from that team who doesn't have their own spot.
- All Other Players: every card of any player not listed anywhere in the break.
Example: Break 1056, 2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball Hobby, has 187 player spots across all 30 teams.
Memorabilia breaks
Some breaks are built around memorabilia instead of cards. In an Under Wraps Autographed Bats case break, the case holds 8 boxes with one signed MLB bat in each. Spots are still by team, but with 8 bats and 30 teams, only the teams whose players' bats come out of the case receive one. Read the listing so you know how many items are in the case before you buy.
How a Ballers Bank break runs
- Pick a spot. Every listing shows the product, number of boxes, format and the price of each spot.
- The break fills. Once every spot is sold, the break is scheduled.
- It's opened live. We open the full sealed case live on TikTok at @slabhouse.com. You can watch, but you don't need to be there.
- Cards are sorted and shipped. Every card is sorted by spot and shipped to the buyer from San Jose, California.
How to choose a spot
- Check the checklist. A team's or player's spot is only as good as their cards in that product.
- Prospect products like Bowman Chrome reward knowing the prospects. Rookie and veteran products like Topps Series 2 reward strong team depth.
- Compare the spot price to what you'd pay for the cards you want as singles. Sometimes the single is the better buy. Browse singles to compare.
- Prefer to own the whole thing? Buy a sealed hobby box or case instead.
